The road up Round Top Mountain is short but very scenic, offering nearly 360 degree views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains near Lake City, Colorado, and a view of the Slumgullion Earthflow.
Driving to Round Top Mountain The road to Round Top is gravel, a single lane, with hairpin turns. A four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle is required. 4x4s, ATVs, and dirt bikes are allowed on this road. This road can be very muddy in early summer and during thunderstorm season. Please respect the private property that adjoins this road in some areas. |

Directions & Map
From Lake City, head south on Highway 149 for 1.5 miles. Look for a gravel road on the right, just past the Lake City Ski Hill. This is the road to Round Top Mountain, and it continues for just over 4.5 miles until it reaches the top.
