Colorado is home to dozens of 14,000 foot peaks, known as fourteeners or 14ers, which are some of the highest peaks in the United States. A high concentration of fourteeners are located in the relatively-young and jagged San Juan Mountains. Within just a few miles of Lake City, you will find six fourteeners, each with a foot trail to the summit.
Each of these peaks is located in either a National Wilderness Area or Wilderness Study Area.
